Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam: Police

Srinagar, May 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam on Monday said to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party of Police Station Kulgam during patrolling intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag near ARTO office Kulgam. He has been identified as Aaqib Hussain Bhat son of Abdul Rashid Bhat resident of Laisoo, Guddar. During search, 3.2 Kgs of Poppy Straw has been recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, a police spokesman said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 61/2024 under section 8/15 NDPS act has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
