KU wins 11 medals in All India Inter-University QWAN KI DO tourney in Rajasthan

Srinagar, Apr 29: Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir Monday announced the commendable performance of its QWAN-KI-DO contingents, both Men and Women at the All India Inter-University QWAN KI DO Tournament.

The event hosted by Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal Tibrewala University in Chudela Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, witnessed spirited and tough competition from 34 universities across the nation from April 26th to 28th, 2024.

The University of Kashmir contingent, comprising 12 student-players accompained by Ms. Surjeet Kour as Manager, showcased exceptional skill and determination, securing a remarkable tally of 9 Bronze and 2 Silver Medals in different cattagories for University of Kashmir. This achievement stands as a testament to the dedication and prowess of our athletes said Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir.

Dr. Mandeep Singh, further extended heartfelt gratitude to Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Nelofer Khan and Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal for their unwavering and unflinching support towards the university’s sports endeavors.

AIU Joint Secretary (YA & Sports) Dr. Baljit Singh Sekhon congratulated Dr. Mandeep Singh (Director, DS&PE) and the entire University of Kashmir for this remarkable achievement. Dr. Sekhon was the Guest of Honour at the tournament an was thrilled by the excellent performance of athletes of University of Kashmir.

He also expressed his gratitude to the managing committee members KU including Dr. Harbinder Singh (Hockey Coach), Sheikh Adil (KU, Gymnasium Coach), Surjeet Kour (Sports Assistant) and Anees Ahmed Bhat (Techinical Coach, Quan Ki Do) under whose guidance and expertise the contingent/ team was prepared to participate in this prestigious competition.

Dr. Sekhon also appreciated the initiative of University of Kashmir to propose winter sports at the All India level under the agies of AIU. “It is a matter of pride that Kashmir University is exploring its talent in various games. I congratulate Dr. Mandeep Singh and the entire university for this huge success. Anees Ahmed Bhat from the J&K Qwon Ke Dho Association.

Dr. Davinder Singh Dhull, President of Shri Jagdishprasad Jhabarmal of Tibrewala University in Chudela, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan personally extended his congratulations to University of university. Dr. Dhull also extended an invitation to the players of KU for future friendly competitions. Furthermore, he lauded the exceptional performance of the players from Kashmir University, particularly their victory against international opponents. Dr. Dhull commended the dedication of Surjeet Kour, Sports Assistant, for her consistent presence during matches to provide encouragement to the players.

The University of Kashmir remains committed to fostering a culture of excellence in sports and looks forward to continued success in future endeavors, said Dr. Mandeep Singh, Director, Directorate of sports and Physical Education, Kashmir University.
