Srinagar, Apr 29: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police on Monday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A Police party of Police Station Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Bonigam, intercepted a suspicious person identified as Showkat Ahmad Dar son of Sonauallah Dar resident of Bonigam carrying a bag. The said person after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. He was chased and apprehended tactfully. After search, 3.1 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance filled in the said bag was recovered from his possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to INS.

Moreover, police party of police station Devsar during patrolling found two persons in suspicious condition at Sopat Maldar link road near ziyarat Sharief, who on noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. They were chased and apprehended tactfully.

After search, officers present were able to recover 80 grams of Charas like contraband substance from their possession. The said persons identified as Muneeb Ahmad Ganie son of Mohd Yaqoob Ganie and Akash Lateef Ganie son of Mohd Lateef Ganie residents of Nussu Badragund were shifted to police station Devsar where they remain in police custody.

Accordingly, police said that a case vide FIR number 122/2024 at Police Station Qazigund and a case vide FIR number 33/2024 at police station Devsar under relevant sections of law stands registered and and investigation is in progress in both cases.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
