Major snowfall in J&K from March 01

Srinagar, Feb 26: The private weatherman on Monday predicted a major snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir feom March 01.

Faizan Keng in a detailed forecast issued to INS, said that a strong Western Disturbance is going to affect Jammu and Kashmir between 01 & 03 March.

“Under its influence, moderate to very heavy rain and snowfall is expected across Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“Rain and snow activities are set to commence from the morning of March 1st onwards, but the most significant impact will be seen on March 2nd,” Keng said.

At first, there is a possibility for moderate to heavy rainfall only in the plains, which could transform into snowfall on March 2nd if heavy rain persists, he said.

He added that higher reaches are expected to receive heavy to very heavy snowfall till 3rd March.

“Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Jammu region as well, with chances of snowfall in higher areas like Banihal, Kishtwar, and Bhaderwah,” he said.

“There are chances of lightning, thunder, and strong gusty winds in some parts of the UT,” he said, adding that landslides and shooting stones are expected along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. It is suggested to avoid traveling on the highway till 04th March.
