Srinagar, Dec 23: The prominent fiction writer of Kashmir, Umar Majeed was remembered on his 15th anniversary on Saturday while a function was held at a local hotel in Srinagar in which a book compiled on his literary services was unveiled.
The event, organized in collaboration with Koh Maran and Voice of Hills, was presided over by the well-known fiction writer Noor Shah. He was accompanied by the leading fiction writer Vehshi Syeed, world-renowned journalist Yousaf Jameel, well-known writer and broadcaster Dr. Satish Vimal, well-known writer and journalist Javed Azar and Prof. Nasir Mirza.
On this occasion, the book “Baiyead Umar Majeed,” compiled by young writers Zubair Qureshi and Suhail Salim on the literary services of Umar Majeed, was unveiled.
Well-known writers Abdul Rasheed Rahgeer, Ghulam Nabi Shahid, and Adil Ashraf, who have served Urdu literature for many decades, were honored in recognition of their services.
On this occasion, a known fiction writer Nasir Zameer presented his short story “Yayadon Ka Mosam,” written in memory of Umar Majeed.
During the ceremony, Dr. Naveed Nazir, a well-known physician of the Kashmir Valley, was honored for his services, while Zubair Qureshi and Suhail Salim were honored for compiling the book on Umar Majeed.
On this occasion, Arif Umar Majeed, the son of Umar Majeed, was also honored by civil society.
During the ceremony, the speakers remembered the services of Umar Majeed in wonderful words. In his presidential speech, Noor Shah dedicated his text on Umar Majeed to the audience, while Vehshi Syeed, Prof. Nasir Mirza, Yousaf Jameel, Dr. Satish Vimal, and Javed Azar remembered the services of Umar Majeed.
At the end of the event, Zubair Qureshi presented a vote of thanks, saying, “Umar Majeed’s legacy continues to inspire us, and this book is a testament to his enduring influence on literature in Kashmir.”
