Srinagar, Oct 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam, Ganderbal & Baramulla and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

“Kulgam Police received specific information regarding the presence of contraband substance in a residential house of Mohd Yousuf Rather son of Ali Mohammad Rather resident of Kanjikullah, Yaripora,” a police spokesman said.

Subsequently, police said that officers raided the specific spot and recovered 52 Kgs of Poppy Straw in presence of Executive Magistrate Yaripora. The accused drug peddler has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Meanwhile in Ganderbal, Police Station Lar received an information through reliable sources that a notorious drug peddler namely Tayib Feroze Bhat son of Feroze Ahmad Bhat resident of Qasba Lar has hoarded psychotropic substance in his residential house with an intention to sell them to the local youth, police said.

On the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar, a special Police team was constituted which was led by SHO PS Lar who acted swiftly and raided the spot.

“During search, nine bottles of Codeine Phosphate & 120 banned tablets (Etizolam) were recovered from his residential house in presence of Lumberdar and Sarpanch of the concerned area. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station. It is pertinent to mention that Ganderbal Police has arrested three notorious drug Peddlers in three consecutive days,” police said.

Similarly in Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Baramulla headed by SHO PS Baramulla under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Carriapa Park Baramulla intercepted a person.

He was identified as Aamir Bashir Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Ushkara Baramulla. During checking, 48 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus & 300 tablets of Alprozolam was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at respective police stations & investigations have been initiated.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
