Budgam: Sajad Rasool, a Journalist hailing from central Kashmir’s Budgam district is selected for year long US based Acumen fellowship program- 2019, an intensive leadership development program cultivating a pipeline of tomorrow’s social change makers.

Rasool, a 2014 pass out from Kashmir University’s Media Education and Research Centre is the only journalist from the state of Jammu and Kashmir who is selected among all the100 fellows chosen for this ‘prestigious fellowship’ from several countries across the world.

“This fellowship is offered to those working in various social sectors including journalists but must be something different than the mainstream,” Rasool told the INS.

Rasool being the founder of Kashmir Unheard (KU), Kashmir’s first independent multimedia community news platform is selected for this fellowship program.

He further said, “There are many such opportunities through out the globe which one can avail free of cost but the need is to always think out of box.”

KU is linked with Video Volunteers, India which trains people especially social workers from rural and marginalized communities in filmmaking and journalism to highlight local issues which remain untold in mainstream media discourse, Rasool added.
