B R Sharm Appointed State Election Commissioner Till April 2025

Srinagar, July 14: The Government on Friday appointed Braj Raj Sharma as State Election Commissioner for Jammu and Kashmir.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by proviso to sub-section (3) of section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr. Braj Raj Sharma, IAS (Retd.) as State Election Commissioner for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir under the said Act,” reads a government order. “He shall hold the position of State Election Commissioner till he attains the age of sixty five years”.

The appointment of State Election Commissioner, it said, shall take effect from the date he assumes the charge.

Born on 27-04-1960, the former Chief Secretary and the chairman of J&K Public Service Commission, shall have tenure till 2025.

“The terms and conditions of his appointment shall be notified by the Government subsequently.”
