Srinagar, June 16: A panel discussion and film screenings on women’s issues drew active participation of students at the North Campus, University of Kashmir.

The events were organised by the Women’s Development Cell of the campus to highlight a range of issues that affect women at workplaces, public spaces and elsewhere.

Dr Maleeha Gul, Convener, Women’s Development Cell (WDC) and Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), North Campus, spelt out the specific objectives of the two events. She said as part of the mandate of the WDC and ICC, the programmes were held to sensitise the student community about various women’s issues and the need to address the same by way of raising awareness in the society.

The film screening session included four short films based on different themes. The films were compiled by Dr Ambreen Khursheed, Dr Maleeha Gul, Dr Umar Farooq and Farooq Ahmad—all members of the WDC team. It was followed by a panel discussion, which also included a question-answer session, on each film to encourage students to voice their perspectives and feedback.

The event saw active participation of students from different departments of North Campus, besides students and faculty from Government Degree College, Baramulla.

A brief valedictory ceremony was later held, where student panelists were felicitated with certificates and awards.
