Srinagar: ACT and J&KHA jointly organised ‘World White Cane Safety Day’ at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on Saturday to recognise the importance of white canes for blind people who want to safely travel and maintain their independence. The day aims to recognise the active participation of blind people in society and celebrate their achievements. The white cane is a long cane that helps someone with ‘Low Vision’ or ‘No Vision’ to navigate and avoid obstacles on the road. It is their visual aid that helps identify dents, platform edges, steps, uneven surfaces.
The one day Seminar on White Cane Safety was organised by ‘ACTORS’ CREATIVE THEATRE’ and ‘J&K HANDICAPPED ASSOCIATION’
Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Chairman of ACT, gave the welcome address. The commissioner of Physically Handicapped Commission, M. Iqbal Lone, who was the chief guest also spoke on the occasion.
Ab. Rashid Bhat and Abrar Bhat of J&K Handicapped Association were also present there.
Smart phones were also distributed to about 25 visually impaired children. The show was hosted by Farah Zaidie.
