LeT Militant, Policeman Killed In South Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 2: A Lashker-e-Toiba militant and a policemen were killed while a paramilitary CRPF personnel was injured in an gunfight and a militant attack in south Kashmir on Sunday.

“Based on a specific input generated by Police regarding presence of a (militant) in village Baskuchan area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (44RR) and CRPF (178Bn) in the area,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

During the search operation, he said, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively, leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, he said, LeT militant Naseer Ahmad Bhat of Nowpora Baskuchan, Shopian was killed. As per police records, Bhat was a categorized malignant and involved in several cases.

“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK rifle were recovered from the site of encounter.”

Moreover, he said, at about 1500 hours, militants fired upon a joint party of Police and CRPF in Pinglena area of Pulwama in which police personnel Javid Ahmad Dar was killed and a CRPF personnel injured. The injured has been immediately evacuated to hospital for the treatment of his injuries, he said. Senior police officers alongwith reinforcement reached at the spot.

Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on.”
