HC Directs NIA Courts Of Anantnag, Baramulla To Expedite Cases

Srinagar, Aug 26: The High Court of J&K and Ladakh on Friday directed NIA Special Courts in Anantnag and Baramulla to expedite cases under National Investigation Agency Act.
In order to ease out the pressure from the NIA Courts, the high court ordered transfer of Civil, Session trial cases (except rape cases) and NDPS cases pending in the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, (NIA Special Court) Anantnag to the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Anantnag for disposal in accordance with law.
Similarly, Session trial cases, NDPS and Civil Cases have been transferred from the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (NIA Special Court), Baramulla to the Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Baramulla for disposal in accordance with law.
“Further, NIA Special Courts, Anantnag and Baramulla are directed to expedite and take up on priority the cases under NIA Act,” reads an order passed by Sanjeev Gupta Registrar General of the court. The order has been passed on the directions of the Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal.
Meanwhile, as per a separate order, charge of the Court of Fast Track Court, Kupwara, has been assigned to the Court of Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kupwara in addition to his duties till further orders.
This has been done in the interest of administration of justice and in view of the retirement on superannuation of Javed Ahmad Geelani, the order noted.
“Further, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kupwara shall continuously hold the additional charge of the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge, Handwara,” the order added.
