Srinagar, Aug 18: Weatherman has forecast isolated light rain and thunderstorm over Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours even though the minimum temperature recorded a drop at most places on Thursday.

A meteorological department official here said that “scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorm was expected on subsequent two days.

In last 24 hours till 0830 a.m., the official said said, Batote received 16.6mm of rain followed by Gulmarg with 9.0mm, Pahalgam 6.9mm, Kukernag 4.8mm,  Banihal 0.6mm and traces in Srinagar, Katra and Bhaderwah.

Regarding minimum temperature, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of 19.6°C same as on the previous night. The temperature was 1.5°C above normal during this time of the year for the summer capital, he said.

Qazigund recorded a low of 16.4°C against 17.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 0.1°C above normal there, he said.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 13.7°C against 14.7°C on the previous night and it was 0.7°C above normal for the south Kashmir resort.

Kokernag recorded a low of 14.9°C against 17.2°C the previous night and it was 0.9°C below normal for the place, he said.

World famous Gulmarg resort recorded a low of 11.0°C against 11.2°C on the previous night. It was 1.0°C below normal for the north Kashmir place.

Kupwara town saw a low of 18.1°C against 17.1°C on previous night and it was 1.5°C above normal for the place during this time of the season, the official said.

Jammu recorded a low of 26.4°C against 25.6°C on the previous night. It was 1.6°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

Banihal recorded a low of 17.4°C, Batote 18.2°C, Katra 24.0°C and Bhadarwah 16.7°C.
