Srinagar: Students, youth, civil society members, NGOs besides senior officers of District Administration Ramban participated in a series of programmes to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
District Administration, Ramban had organized a series of programmes and activities across the district to mark the event.
Youth Services & Sports Department(YSS) organized an awareness rally (Padh Yatra) here at Srinagar.
The Rally (Padh Yatra) was flagged off by District Youth Services & Sports Officer Srinagar, Balbir Singh Sodhi in presence of other senior officers and officials of the department from Youth Hostel Srinagar.
In Ramban the main function was held at GHSS, Ramban, in which a large number of students, youth, civil society members, NGOs besides senior officers of District Administration participated. Similar programmes were also held at block-level to sensitise youth and students against the plague of drug abuse.
Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam presided over the function, organized by the Social Welfare Department, in collaboration with Education and Health Departments here.
CEO, MC, Ramban, Vishwajeet, Chief Education Officer, Dev Anand, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kamal Zadu, District Social Welfare Officer, Rahul Gupta, besides other senior officers were present on the occasion.
Field employees of Youth Services & Sports Department & students in large numbers attended these Anti Substance Abuse Programs. The Yatra Started at Youth Hostel Srinagar and after passing through Wazir Bagh, L.D Chowk, Lal Mandi, Presentation Convent Chowk, Jehlum Bund Road, Zero Bridge, and, successfully culminated at Emporium Gardens Srinagar. The participants carried and displayed banners and play cards and raised slogans against the menace of drugs.
Later in the day, a painting drawing competition was held inside Emporium Gardens with the relevant theme.
Speaking at the occasion District Development Commissioner Srinagar Aijaz Assad highlighted the need of mass awareness programs and the contribution of Society at large in curbing the menace of substance/drug abuse.
He further said that District Administration Srinagar has launched an initiative “Mission Wappasi” in order to bring back and support the victims so that they can live a normal life again. He advised the young participants keep an eye & to work actively in their respective societies/colonies in order to track and trap the peddlers who are responsible for the growing numbers of drug addicts and substance abuse.
He also lauded the efforts of the Youth Services & Sports Department in conducting programs of huge social importance. The Chief Guest also distributed Trophies and Medallion amongst the position holders of painting/Drawing competition
