Srinagar, May 27: National Conference on Friday said that the Enforcement Directorate’s summon to its president and Lok Sabha MP Farooq Abdullah was ‘common for all opposition parties in India.’

Farooq has been asked to appear by ED on May 31 at its Srinagar office in connection with a money laundering case linked to alleged financial irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, officials said.

“The latest ED summon to JKNC President Dr Farooq Abdullah is common for all opposition parties in India. Every time elections are expected to be announced in any state, the investigative agencies move in first to clear a path for the BJP,” National Conference said in a statement . “This appears to be the case this time as well and this is the price opposition parties pay for opposing this government,” it said, adding, “Dr Abdullah has continued to maintain his innocence in the matter and has cooperated with the investigative agencies and will do so in this case as well.”

National Conference said that it’s also not a coincidence that the only leaders targeted in J&K belong to the PAGD alliance parties.
