They said the militants have also fled from the encounter spot in Pandoshan area of the south Kashmir district.

Two civilians and a soldier were injured in the gunfight before militants managed to their way out, they said.

The civilians as well as the soldier were shifted to army hospital and one of the civilians, Shahid Gani Dar son of Abdul Gani Dar succumbed to injuries, they said. Another civilian Shoaib Ahmad Mantoo and soldier Sanjeev Das are recuperating, they said.

“During initial cordon & search operation, (militants) fired upon civilians and tried to escape, in which two civilians got injured.  Both the injured shifted to hospital. One of them is critical,” police had said in a tweet late last night.

In another tweet, police said both the injured civilians have been airlifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.

Meanwhile official sources said that cordon in the village has been lifted as no contact with the militants was re-established, suggesting that they managed to flee from the spot.
