Srinagar, April 18: National Conference on Monday rued the government order directing the traders, shopkeepers to install CCTV surveillance cameras saying the installation charges are beyond their monetary reach.

This was said by the party State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar while expressing dismay over the order. “From the security point of view the measure has manifold benefits. But the installation and maintenance charges involved are too high for the small business establishments. The administration needs to understand that an ordinary shopkeeper can ill afford to install the camera setup. Ideally the government should have encouraged traders to install the surveillance cameras by offering them the setup on subsidized rates and installments,” he said.

JK marginal traders are already reeling under economic slump and trying to make up for previous losses. “Administration can’t force traders to buy something which they can’t afford or which has financial implications. Compelling traders to make out of pocket expenditures on such items at a time when they are struggling to pay off their debts is outlandish,” he added.
