Srinagar: Thousands of devotees on Tuesday thronged the shrine of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA) at Char-e-Sherief and offered prayers throughout the day on the 598th annual Urs of revered Sufi saint.
According to an estimate, congregational prayers at the famous shrine were offered by more than 7,000 people, who converged from different parts of the Valley.
Devotees offered Durud (praises to prophet Muhammad (SAW) while the chief cleric of the shrine threw light on the contributions by the saint, famously known as Sheikh-ul Alam, in spreading Islam in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Last night, devotes held prayers by offering Durud and recited Holy Quran for the entire night at the shrine for the blessing of Allah.
Cops in blue uniform also remained busy throughout the day to man traffic to the shrine that poured from many parts of the Valley.
Meanwhile, National Conference President and member Parliament Dr. Farooq Abdullah visited shrine and prayed for sustained peace.

Paying obeisance at the shrine, Farooq prayed for stability and development of the State and well being of the people, a spokesman of the party said in a statement issued here. Farooq also interacted with devotees and also inquired about the upkeep of the shrine and offered prayers.
While talking to reporters outside the shrine, Farooq emphasized the need of imbibing the teachings of the revered saint in peoples’ lives and said that this spirit has to be maintained at all costs.
“People of the state are going through tough and trying times. It’s therefore imperative for all of us to rise above our narrow needs and common together as a united force to quell the evil designs of those who are hatching conspiracies to harm J&K and its people,” Farooq said.
