Srinagar, Mar 6: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah abd PDP chief among others condemned the grenade attack at Amira kadal in which one person was killed and 24 others including a policeman got injured on Sunday.

“I strongly condemn the (militant) attack at Srinagar. My deepest condolences to family of innocent civilian martyred & wish speedy recovery to injured. We are firmly resolved to dismantle (militant) ecosystem & defeat (militancy) menace that continues to be perpetrated by neighboring country,” Sinha said in a tweet.

National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah said that violence has no place in an emancipated world, according to a statement. They said that such incidents leave a trail of lifelong miseries behind them.

Sharing in the grief of bereaved, they prayed for peace to the departed in the highest echelons of Jannat. The duo also prayed for speedy recovery to the injured. The duo impressed upon the administration to ensure best of medical care to all the injured.

“Condemn this dastardly attack. People of J&K have been paying with their lives & sadly neither India nor Pakistan are doing anything to end the conflict & stop this bloodshed,” Mehbooba said in a tweet. “My prayers are with the bereaved families & loved ones,” she added.

Earlier a civilian was killed and 24 others were injured in a grenade blast at busy Amira Kadal here on Sunday. Police said it was working hard to identify the person behind it and smash the “module.”

“We are working hard to identify this (militant)- criminal and will smash this module also,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.

Police said while an elderly man was killed, twenty-four persons were injured and one of them includes a young girl who is critical and is battling for life at SMHS hospital here. Rest of the injured including a policemen are out of danger, the police said in a statement.

” A grenade attack took place in the market near Amira kadal bridge at around 4:20 PM,” police said, adding, “In this incident, one old man from Makhdhoom Sahib Nowhatta has succumbed to injuries while one girl is critically injured and is battling for life.

“Also 24 other persons including 23 civilians and one policeman have received splinter injuries but are out of danger”.

In light of this act of grenade throwing in the busy Sunday market near Amira Kadal bridge, the police urged all civilians to be vigilant and report “any suspected activity to thwart the nefarious designs of (militants)”.

“Efforts are underway to nab the culprits behind the attack,” the police added.

Meanwhile police identified the deceased person as Mohammad Aslam Makdhoomi of Makdhoom Sahib Nowhatta.

The injured have been identified as  as Jan Mohammad (22), Mehraj u Din (55) of Soitang, Nimba Abass (15) of Kulgam, Gh Mohammad (55) of Baghi Mahtab, Riyaz Ahmad (40) of Mehjoornagar, Ayaz Rashid(45) of Dargah, Dilshada (32) of Balhama, Shazia(36) of Bohrikadal, Najma(29) of Rawalpora, Suhani(16) of Kulgam, Kausar(40) of Bemina, Farhana(28) of Dargah, Rafiya(19) of Dargah, Aatira(23) Jan of Kupwara, Aatif(24) of Mehjoornagar, Dr Shazia (26) daughter of Altaf Hussain Lone of Bandipora, Zoya(11) daughter of Mohammad Umer Lankhoora of Nowhata, Ulfat (22) of Kupwara Badarwan, Fiza(14) of Pampore, Danish(17) of Vilgam Kupwara , Nazir Ahmad(60) Sariabala, Parveenaof Batmaloo, Kaisar(27) of Kupwara.
