Srinagar, Feb 25: A gunfight between militants and joint team of police and army has started in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Friday, officials said.

They said a joint team of police and army launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in Amshipora area of the district amid inputs about the presence of the militants. “Subsequently a gunfight ensued,” the official sources said. There are reports that internet services have been snapped in the area.

“Encounter has started at Amshipora area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Police said in tweet.
