4 persons dead, at least 36 missing as cloud burst hits Kishtwar ; MeT issues advisory for flash floods, landslides in parts of J&K

Jammu, July 28: Four persons were killed and around 36 others are missing and feared dead in a cloud burst in Kistwar district, officials said.
Reports said that the cloud burst hit Honjar Dacchan, sweeping away six houses and a ration depot.
As soon as getting the news, Police, army, NDRF, civil administration and locals launched a rescue operation, they said.
SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Bhat said that four bodies have been recovered while a number of people, with reports coming in suggesting the number to be around 36, are missing.
He said efforts are on to trace the missing persons. Official sources said that the missing persons are feared dead. Emerging story, more details awaited.
Meanwhile, weather office here issued an alert, warning of flash flood, mudslide, landslide and water logging in low lying area.
“At present, it’s cloudy at most places of J&K with thunderstorm and rain at some places of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi and neighborhood,” an official of the MeT office said. “Widespread intermittent rain is most likely to continue till July 30th,” he said, adding, “heavy to very rain is also possible at some places.”
He said that it may lead to flash flood, mudslide, landslide and water logging in low lying areas. He said that it may lead to flash floods, mudslides, landslides and water-logging in low lying areas.
Accordingly, he said, people are once again advised to remain “alert” and very cautious as water level has increased in all rivers. “Don’t venture out on hilly and landslides, mudslide prone areas.”
