Jammu, April 27: A 28-year-old army soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service rifle in Banihal area in Ramban district of Jammu region, officials said on Tuesday.

They said that at about 2 a.m. information was received soldier identified as Asangeppa Madar (28) son of Parasappa of Layadagundi Bagalkot Karnataka shoot himself with the service weapon at R-Center Camp of army’s 27RR at Banihal.

A police officer said that proceedings as per law have been imitated with regard to the suicide. It was however  not immediately known as to why the soldier took the extreme step.
