Srinagar: At least 300 people working at a Border Road Organisation have been rescued after a glacier near Niti Valley in Uttarakhand broke off Friday. As bad weather conditions restricted the operations in the area the rescue will continue today as well, Indian Express reported.

Official was qouted as saying that  in a night rescue operation another 150 General Reserve Engineer Force that works under BRO, GREF, persons stuck in the BRO Camp have been rescued and brought to safety.

A BRO Camp came has under avalanche conditions as heavy snowfall hit the area in Sumna area of Joshimath Sector in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on Friday.

As the rescue operations began around 55 persons “could be mustered at first count, blizzard conditions kept rescue operation at bay till late evening”.
