Covid in India: Highest surge globally, 3.14 lakh test positive in 24hrs

New Delhi:  India recorded the world’s biggest-ever daily surge of Covid-19 cases in 24 hours with 3.14 lakh new cases. Since yesterday 2,104 Covid deaths have been recorded.

As the country is being swept by a brutal second Covid wave, the total case load tally has reached 1.59 crore. With 3,14,835 new cases, the total infections stand at 1,59,30,965. The death toll, meanwhile, stands at 1,84,657.

No country has recorded such a single day surge in more cases .India has surpassed one-day rise in the world of 2,97,430 cases posted by the United States in January.

While the country battles with brutal second wave of Covid 19 polling is underway in West Bengal, which itself registered its highest-ever single-day spike, with 9,819 people testing positive.

Twenty-four Covid-19 patients died at a hospital run by the Nashik Municipal Corporation on Wednesday after oxygen supply was disrupted due to a leakage in the main oxygen storage tank, The Indian Express reported.
