Srinagar, Feb 19: Three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba and a Specail Police Officer (SPO) were killed Shopian and Budgam districts of south and central Kashmir, officials said on Friday.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that three militants were killed in the gunfight which had started on Thursday night at Badigam area of Shopian.
However their identity is yet to be ascertained, the IGP Said.
Earlier, a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Badigam following specific information about the presence of the militants.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, the officials said.
Meanwhile, an SPO was killed while as another policeman was injured in a fierce gunfight in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A senior police officer identified the slain SPO as Altaf Ahmad and the policeman as senior grade constable Manzoor Ahmad.
Earlier, a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Beerwah and as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.
