Police arrests extortionist with toy Pistol

Srinagar: Police have arrested an extortionist with toy pistol and four rounds of SLR from his possession near village Barsoo Awantipora on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, officials said on Tuesday.
“In the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora, one person who was trying to extort money from a person near village Barsoo, Awantipora was arrested by Police. He has been identified as Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh of Dalwach Beerwah, Budgam,” a police spokesman said.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 01 toy Pistol, 01 Knife and 04 SLR-rounds from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.”
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR number 23/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora. “Further any connection of the arrested person with (militants) for possessing 04 rounds of SLR is being investigated.”
