Srinagar: Kashmir Valley recorded the coldest day of the season on Sunday even as taps continued to remain dry for the last three days even during the day time.
Srinagar recorded seasons’ coldest day at 0.6 degree Celsius against 2.0 degrees on the previous night, a Meteorological department official said.
Qazigund recorded 0.8 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 3.5 degree Celsius, Kupwara 1.3 degree Celsius, Kokernag 1.3 degree Celsius and Gulmarg 2.5 degree Celsius, the weatherman added.
Meanwhile people continued to suffer as water taps remained frozen in summer capital and outskirts as severe cold conditions continued. World famous Dal Lake and other water-bodies were also frozen as the city recorded the coldest night in 30 years after the mercury dipped and settled at minus 8.8 degree on Sunday.
Meanwhile, residents from almost all parts of the city, including outskirts complained of water shortage. “Our taps remained frozen for the past three days,” a resident said.
Due to severe cold wave conditions hundreds of water motors were damaged in Srinagar during the past 72 hours.
The Met department spokesperson said that there could be light snow at few places in Kashmir valley that could result in improvement in night temperature due to overcast conditions.
