Police arrests man for ‘impersonating as ACB official’ in Pulwama

Pulwama, Nov 13: Police on Friday said to have arrested a man who allegedly impersonated as Anti-Corruption Bureau official “with an intention to extort money” from a person in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“Acting swiftly on a complaint received from a person belonging to village Dadsara Awantipora that one person stopped him while he was driving a car near Toll Plaza Awantipora and introduced himself as Anti Corruption Bureau Official,” a police official said in a statement.
“The person had searched the complainant’s car and taken his phone number,” the official said, adding, “Later on during evening hours, the person called the complainant on phone with the intention to extort money from him.’
Upon the complaint, the official said, Police identified the person as Mohammad Amin Wani of Zafron Colony Panthachowk and arrested him from Pampore.
A case (FIR 164/2020) under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Awantipora, the official said.
“Police requests community members to share any such information to concerned Police Stations strict action under law shall be taken against the person involved in such criminal activities,” the official added. (GNS)
