Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting Kashmir valley with the outside world, reopened on Monday after remaining closed due to fresh landslides and shooting stones, triggered by heavy rains, at several places along the thoroughfare.
The traffic was restored after landslides and shooting stones were cleared at Penthyal and other places in Ramban, a traffic police official said today.
The thoroughfare was opened only recently after remaining suspended for more than four days due to landslides and shooting stones at several places, mostly in the Ramban district.
Meanwhile, the traffic department said on Tuesday that subject to fair weather and better road condition “only LMVs shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu.”
However, it said, “HMVs (stranded load carriers) shall be allowed from Udhampur towards Srinagar.”
