Annatnag, Jul 8: A 24-year-old youth drowned in Jehlum in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening.
Reports said that the youth, Yawar Ahmad (son of Javid Ahmad Narchoor of Ashagipora went for a bath in the waterbody at Bange Nowgam area of the district this evening.
Soon after the news spread, rescue teams were rushed to the spot by the administration. After recovery, the youth was evacuated to Government Medical College Anantnag, however, the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Confirming the death, a doctor said that the youth has purportedly died due to asphyxiation.
A police official meanwhile said that the body has been handed over to the family after conducting medico-legal formalities.
