Srinagar: A militant was killed and a paramilitary CRPF trooper injured in a gunfight in Malbagh area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Thursday evening.
Official sources said a joint team of the Police’s SOG and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in the area amid specific inputs about the presence of the militants.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off an encounter. One CRPF personnel was injured in the initial gunfight, sources said.
“Encounter has started at Malbagh area of Srinagar. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” police tweeted.
A local news agency reported that one unidentified militant has been killed while one CRPF personnel was injured who has been hospitalized.
