Kashmiri separatist leaders have appealed for calm in the biggest anti-India protests in two years that have killed dozens of people and raised fears that anger at New Delhi was spinning out of control. Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and CRPF in Kanimazar area of Nawakadal here on Tuesday. One personnel each from SOG of police and paramilitary CRPF were also injured in the gunfight, sources said.
“01 more unidentified (militant) killed in the ongoing operation. Further details shall follow,” police tweeted.
A senior police officer said that two weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
Earlier, a joint team of Police and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area late last night. As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off an encounter. A policeman from Special Operation Group and a paramilitary CRPF personnel were injured during the course of the gunfight, officials said. The operation was suspended due to darkness and resumed at first light today, reaching its peak as the day progressed, the officials said.
Meanwhile, voice calling (except BSNL) and mobile internet services have been suspended in Srinagar district as “precautionary measure”, officials said.
