Srinagar: One more militant has been killed in an encounter at Sarshali Khrew area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, officials said on Wednesday.
“So far 02 unidentified (militants) killed. Search operation going on,” police said in a tweet. The encounter had started last night after police and army launched a joint cordon-and-search-operation following specific inputs about the presence of the militants in a particular house in the village. Besides Sarshali Khrew, a gunfight between militants and the joint team of police and army besides CRPF was reported from Beigpora area of Awantipora, the home town of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen operation chief commander Riyaz Naikoo. Police said senior officers monitored the operation since last night. “Contact established in the third operation at (Beighpora). Top (militant) commander is trapped,” police said in a tweet following one in which killing of militant at Sarshali Khrew area was made. Unconfirmed reports point out the killing of the militant at Beighpora.
