Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has deleted order from its website on the appointment of former Chief Secretary of the erstwhile J&K state Braj Raj Sharma as chairman of the J&K Public Service Commission.
Sources said that the government has actually withdrawn the order as Sharma was on April 20 this year re-employed as the chairman of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for two more years, up to April 30, 2022, post his retirement last month.
“In exercise of powers conferred by Section 93 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and S.O. 3937 (E) dated 31st October, 2019, read with Order issued in terms of sub¬clause (i) of clause (c) of the Proclamation issued by the President dated 31st October, 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint Mr B. R. Sharma, IAS (Retd.), as Chairman, Public Service Commission for the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He shall hold the position of the Chairman, Public Service Commission, till he attains the age of sixty-two years,” reads an order issued by the government which has been now deleted from the official website.
Sharma joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the year 1984 and was allotted Jammu & Kashmir Cadre. He is a Post-Graduate in Political Science from the University of Jammu, J&K and MBA from Australian National University, Australia.
In the course of his 35 years career in Administrative Service, he has served the State and the Central Government in various capacities. He has worked as Chief Secretary, J&K before coming to Government of India on deputation.
He joined Ministry of Home Affairs as Additional Secretary (Police) on 18th May, 2017 and was thereafter promoted and posted as Secretary (Border Management).
Sharma is the recipient of Jammu & Kashmir State Government’s Gold Medal for Excellence in Public Service (2011) and Prime Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Public Service (2012).
