2 militants, their ‘associate’ killed In Pulwama; toll rises to 54 this year

Srinagar; Police on Saturday said that two militants and their associate were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and Army in the Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.
“2 unidentified (militant) and one hardcore associate of (militants) killed,” a police officer said.
The encounter ensued after a joint team of police, army’s 50 Rahtriya Rifles launched cordon and search operation in Goripora area of Awantipora.
As the joint team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which they retaliated, triggering off an encounter. Two militants and the associate were killed.
With their killing along with as many others, 54 militants, 22 of them during the lockdown, have been killed in this year alone. Around 20 police, CRPF and army personnel have been killed during the time, officials said. Besides, nine civilians were also killed during the period.
As many as 160 militants were killed and 102 arrested in Jammu and Kashmir last year, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh had said earlier.
