Nigeen police arrests drug peddler with 55 whiskey, beer bottles

Srinagar: Police on Thursday arrested a drug peddler and seized 55 whiskey and beer bottles near Dug Park on foreshore road here.
A police officer told INS that acting on specific information, SHO of police station Nigeen under the supervision of SP Hazratbal Sudhanshu Verma (IPS) and SDPO Zakoora laid a special Naka near dug park foreshore road and intercepted a Grand 110 vehicle (JK01AH-7742).
He said upon searching the vehicle 35 bottles (750 ml each) of McDowell’s Whiskey and 20 bottles of Kingfisher Beer were found.
“The accused driver namely Riyaz Ahmad Rather of Elahi Bagh Soura was arrested on the spot,” the officer said, adding, “A case (FIR No 55/2020) under section 48, J&K Excise Act has been registered in the police station Nigeen.” The vehicle has also been seized and further investigation was on, the officer added.
