Srinagar: A large number of labourers from Kashmir are stuck in Amritsar area Punjab amid the ongoing lockdown and they have urged the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to take concrete steps in bringing them home.
The labourers, who mostly hail from district Kulgam of South Kashmir, are now desperately looking for ways to go out of the Punjab, saying although nothing unpleasant has happened to them, they are worried about what lies ahead for them “given we have no money now”.
The labourers, who go to Amritsar for earning livelihood, are stranded in Punjab as there is non-availability of inter-state bus services. The curfew-like situation has affected their livelihood with total closure of construction works and other business.
“We want to go home due to the prevailing situation. In the absence of any help from the government, we are stuck here. Some of us are scared as well,” one of the labourers told INS over phone.
“Since there is no availability of buses, we request the government to intervene,” he said, adding, “We have no money. Whatever we had earned has been exhausted. It is our humble request to LG and his advisor Basheer Ahmad Khan to help in this situation. We may die out of hunger”.
