Anantnag: A Personal Security Officer posted with National Conference leader Syed Tauqeer was killed by unknown gunmen in Hiller area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir.
Officials said that the militants opened fire at Tauqeer, a former judge who resigned earlier this year and joined National Conference, came under fire from the gunmen during a party meeting. They said his PSO Riyaz Ahmed suffered bullet injuries and succumbed to injuries later. Tauqeer escaped unhurt.
A police spokesperson said that militants fired upon a policeman on duty identified as Riyaz Ahmad and in the incident, he sustained critical gunshot injuries and was evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment. However, the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries. “We paid our rich tributes to Martyr Riyaz Ahmad who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” the police said.
