Doctors should keep on learning new things every day: Guv’s Advisor

Srinagar: On National Doctor’s Day, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) on Monday organized its 1st Research Day which provides a platform to the faculty of SKIMS to showcase their research contribution in the field of Medicine, Surgery & Allied subjects.
Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar was chief guest on the occasion while as Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Talat Ahmad was the guest of honour.
Director SKIMS Prof. Omar Javed Shah, Chairman GI Surgery Medanta Dr Adarsh Chaudhary, former Director SKIMS, senior faculty members and students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the medical fraternity, the Advisor gave them warm wishes on the occasion of National Doctor’s Day and said that the contributions of doctor’s humane service to mankind would be acknowledged forever by all.
This occasion is an opportunity for us to thank physicians, doctors that they do for the patients, the communities they work in and for the society as a whole.
Speaking regarding the importance of research in the medical field, the Advisor said that every doctor has to be a good researcher and should keep on learning new things every day. He said that there is no end to acquiring knowledge but the purpose of adding to the knowledge should be in the form of action.
He said that in present times, research oriented activities are very important in the medical field to further develop advance techniques for the betterment of the patients. Research activities and patient care should always go hand-in-hand so that results of new studies would be implemented in real for having better patient care services.
Advisor Kumar said that the deliberations of this programme will surely help all the participants to upgrade their knowledge and skills for benefit of the patients. Research in any field made people able to meet new challenges and face them with right approach, in the medical field, it is very important that we do research based activities on regular basis for enhancing our skills and knowledge, he added.
He lauded SKIMS authorities for their immense contribution in the field of medicine and healthcare in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Talat Ahmad stressed for holding similar research programmes in the future too and to make this exercise an annual event. He also highlighted the importance of research in the medical field and urged the faculty members to keep doing research activities abreast themselves with the latest happenings in the medical world. He stressed upon the doctors to focus more on research.
Director SKIMS Prof. O J Shah gave brief about the Research Day being organized for the first time to provide a moving platform to the faculty members to share their research work and results with their fellow colleagues.
He said that SKIMS being a premiere institution in the state is committed to provide best healthcare services to the people and such type of activities would be added as regular calendar events of the institution.
Faculty members whose research papers were selected presented their studies during various scientific sessions held during the day.
The dignitaries also released a souvenir and a logo for the Research Day on the occasion.
