Jammu: The traffic on strategic Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with rest of the world, reopened after nearly two hours of closure due to shooting stones in Ramban district. However, the Mughal road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian district, was shut due to landslides and uprooting of trees following overnight rains and gusty winds.
A traffic department official said that traffic was closed at around 7:00 a.m. after shooting stones at Digdol and Panthyal. The debris was cleared as men and machinery was pressed into service.
“The stranded traffic has been almost cleared,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, authorities closed Mughal road after landslides occurred at Mansar Mohre, Poshana and Chattapani while trees were uprooted due to winds at several places along the road.
“Men and machinery has been pressed into service to clear the road and traffic is being restored in next few hours,” he added.
