Shopian: Three bodies have been recovered from the gunfight site in Zainpora area of Shopian after a fierce gunbattle broke out between militants and government forces early Friday morning.

Police sources said that they have recovered three bodies from the site and they are ascertaining their identities.

“We had one body in sight but could not recover it for long and were sure that one is dead,” a police official, who was part of operation told INS.

He said the orchards were deep and it was not easy to move around the trees as they feared to receive bullets from hiding militants. After the recovery of two bodies a lull prevailed in the area for almost six hours as they were combing the area.

Fresh firing broke out after contact with another hiding militant was made and in the ensuing firefight one more militant was killed, he said.

Earlier a joint team of forces had launched CASO in the are to flush out the hiding militants.
