Sopore gunfight: Second holed up militant killed, searches going on

Sopore: One more militant has been killed in gunfight between militants and government forces in Bunpora Mohalla of Dangerpora village in Sopore subdivision of Baramulla district on Thursday.

One militant was killed earlier after the gunfight broke out following search operation by forces in the area for several area.

“Two militants have been killed and searches have been launched,” a police source told INS.

The anti militancy operation is being jointly conducted by a team of army’s 22 RR, CRPF and SOG.

After several hours long siege, the joint team intensified the searches and fired some gunshots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire leading to an encounter, they said.

Meanwhile authorities suspended internet services in Sopore town as a precautionary measure in wake of the operation.

In order to prevent any law and order problem, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Hussain Lily ordered closure of all colleges, Higher secondary in Sopore and all higher secondaries in Zaingeer belt.

Authorities have not released the identity of the slain yet.
