Anantnag:  Family of an SPO killed fifteen years ago in Anantnag are living in abject poverty since. While all official promises have fallen flat, it’s his wife which has been battling all along to make two ends meet.

Aijaz Ahmad Turray, of Janglatmandi Anantnag was killed on July 24, 2004 in Cheeni Chowk Anantnag by unknown gunmen. He was the lone bread earner of the family.

“Since then we have been battling between promised held under SRO and the fight to make two ends meet,” Rubina Jan, wife of Aijaz said..

Rubina, now 39,  says that she has moved from pillar to post in every department concerned, met officials in civil secretariat and politicians ‘but all in vain’.

When Aijaz was killed his elder son was 4 years old while the younger one was 1 year and six months old.

“The younger one, now 16 is blind by birth,” she sighs.

The elder is in 12th standard while the younger one is in seventh standard at Zeba Apa School for specially abled kids in Bijbehara

“I wan them to be educated,” Rubina said.

Soon after Aijaz’s killing, Rubina took over the responsibility of four member family including Aijaz’s old mother.

Rubina since has been earning her livelihood by selling cleaned sheep legs.

“This is how I have made this family survive as all those promises made after Aijaz’s death were hoax,” Rubina complains.

Rubina claims that she has not received any compensation from any government department including police.
