Srinagar: National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah on Thursday won the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Aga Syed Mohsin, by a margin of nearly 70000 votes.
Abdullah polled 106577 votes against Mohsin, who got 36,625 votes, officials said.
There were 12 candidates in the fray and Peoples Conference’s candidate Irfan Raza Ansari was the second runner-up with 28749 voters.
National Conference candidate and former judge of the J&K high court Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi polled 39898 (34.79 percent of the total 114677) votes and defeated his nearest rival, Congress’s state chief, G A Mir (32534 votes), by a margin of 7364 votes. Interestingly, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti emerged second runner up as she polled 30068 votes.
National Conference’s Mohammad Akhbar Lone, who was trailing behind in first few rounds of counting, polled 131869 votes, 29.52 percent of the total votes polled, to defeat his nearest rival—People Conference candidate and former police officer Raja Aijaz Ali (102212 votes) by a margin of 29657 votes. Er Rashid, AIP supremo, who was leading initially, ended up as second runner up, getting 100042, 22.4% of the total 446673 votes polled for the parliamentary constituency spanning over Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora districts.
