Illegal poppy cultivation destroyed in Awantipora

Awantipora: Revenue and municipality department on Thursday destroyed illegal cultivation of poppy straw from the fields of Awantipora in South Kashmir.
Officials said that poppy was cultivated on around 100 kanals of land in upper reaches of Awantipora following which officials were informed.
As per the officials, on the directions of DC Pulwama, acting on specific information about the presence of poppy plants in these areas, a team from Tehsil and municipal administration reached to the spot and destroyed it.
Tehsildar Awantipora Zubair Ahmad said that these plants are used for the preparation of various drugs and its cultivation is illegal.
Meanwhile, the officials appealed people to cooperate with the administration in case there is any cultivation of poppy straw in any part which is a threat to the lives of younger generations.
