Now trucks with essentials stopped on Srinagar-Leh Highway

Ganderbal: Hundreds of trucks with essentials including fruits, vegetables and other items  are stranded at Srinagar Leh highway for a week now as authorities are yet to let them move on the road towards Ladakh.

According to truckers as they heard the news that highway has been opened they began to travel with essentials however they are not being allowed to ply.

The trucks they said are stranded at several locations including at Gund, Vussan and other spots.

“They are telling us that the road is not open for Heavy Motor Vehicles however they let the Army conovys pass,” truckers claimed.

The truckers said that they are carrying perishable items and they will incur huge losses it they are kept stuck on the road.

District Development Commissioner Hashmat Ali Khan told INS that they cannot allow heavy motor vehicles on the highway.

“The order to let traffic move on highway is only for light motor vehicles. Not unless we get orders to let them pass we cannot give such orders,” Khan said.
