Light rainfall in Pahalgam as mercury hovers above normal in Kashmir

Srinagar: Pahalgam, the famous hill resort of south Kashmir which also serves as a base camp for Amarnath Yatra, received light rainfall overnight even as night mercury hovered above normal for this time of the year.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 10.0 degrees Celsius last night against 8.9 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the season.
The official said that Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir recorded a low of 7.2 degrees Celsius while the mercury in Kokernag town in south Kashmir settled at a low of 9.0 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a minimum of 7.7 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, the world famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, witnessed a low of 5.0 degrees Celsius while the famous health resort of Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 3.4 degrees Celsius. While Pahalgam was only place having below normal (4.0 degree Celsius) mercury, the south Kashmir hill resort had 1.8mm o rainfall overnight, the officials added.
Weatherman has forecast light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over the state of Jammu and Kashmir from morning of Wednesday to April 27.
“Light to moderate rain/thunder spell from 24th April (morning) to 27th April,” said the official.
