Amid overnight rains, night temperature hovers above normal in Valley

Srinagar: Rains lashed most parts of Kashmir overnight even as mercury hovered above normal across Valley including at Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 11.7 degrees Celsius last night against 7.6 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the season. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir received 1.3mm of rain overnight, he said. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded minimum of 10.4 degrees Celsius and had traces of rainfall while the mercury in Kokernag town in south Kashmir settled at a low of 9.2 degrees Celsius and it too had traces of rain, the official said. Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a minimum of 8.9 degrees Celsius and had rainfall of 4.1mm, highest in entire Valley. Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir, witnessed a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius and rainfall of 3.6mm while the famous health resort of Pahalgam recorded a minimum of 6.8 degrees Celsius and traces of rainfall.
