Srinagar: President of newly launched political party, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement and record maker IAS topper, Dr. Shah Faesal is unlikely to contest the parliamentary elections here and would test the water in assembly elections, which has been delayed by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Reliable sources privy to the development told INS that Shah Faesal is not contesting the upcoming parliamentary polls as he and the party has decided to contest the assembly elections.

Earlier, there were reports that Shah Faesal will be contesting upcoming parliamentary polls from Baramulla constituency while as he had also hinted to test the water in Lok Sabha polls.

However, the party insiders confirmed to INS that Shah Faesal will not fight the parliamentary polls and will contest state elections, slated to be conducted later this year.

Reports reaching here said that Shah Faesal is scheduled to address media persons on Saturday where he will likely announce the final decision.

There will be a tough contest on Baramulla LS seat as many prominent faces including NC’s Muhammad Akbar Lone, former top unionist and PDP’s candidate Abdul Qayoom Wani, PC’s Raja Aijaz Ali and former Langate legislator, Engineer Abdul Rasheed Sheikh will be testing the water in upcoming LS polls from the constituency.
