Clashes erupt following slain Sopore militant’s funeral, tear gassed

Sopore: Thousands participated in the funeral of slain Sopore militant, Amir Rasool Kaboo, on Friday in Arampora area of Sopore.

Locals said that people from neighboring villages marches towards Kaboo’s residence and participated in his last rites.

“Thousands participated in his funerals and they marched towards the graveyard. He was buried amid massive sloganeering,” locals claimed.

Kaboo was killed along with an associate in Kalantara area of Baramulla on Thursday evening.

Massive clashes broke out between protesters and forces in the area after the funeral ended.

“Youth resorted to stone pelting on forces who retaliated by using tear gas to disperse them,” locals said.

Authorities have closed all the education institution in the area and imposed restrictions as well.
